When we started we just went to a record store and bought what was Hot. A Decade later we subscribed to industry-only music providers (companies who provide the music to radio stations). Ten years after that and we're purchasing music almost daily from online music providers!
For organization we kept our inventory on 1,000's of printed paper sheets in binders. We had Ten of them and lent them out to the clients and they returned them when they were done, and all was well.
Ten years later we were putting the "sheets" in a spreadsheet file and mailed a floppy (search it) to the client, that worked MUCH better. A Decade later, we had so much music and it was changing daily, we need a new solution. How do put all the music we have in our inventory which we obtained over the last 30 years, and is changing daily, and have it in some format which would make a worth while tool for our clients to use?
Well thankfully today it's a whole different story. We do have a DVD we can give you listing every piece of music we own but the truth is the whole paradigm has changed. It's no longer a matter of which DJ has the most or best music...ANY DJ can get you ANY piece of music you desire, music "inventorys" are irrelevant now.
Today the most important thing is, of all the music available, your DJ only plays the "right" music at your function! This of course comes from years of experenice and a close working relationship and understanding of the clients needs. We at SAMUELS+SOUND+SERVICES have a long 30+ year history of doing just that!
